Salvington part of the borough of Worthing, is located roughly 10 miles west of Brighton and 18 miles east of Chichester. Salvington is at the foot of the South Downs, and there are stunning views across Sussex from the top of Salvington Hill, where Salvington Windmill, an excellent example of a mill dating from approximately 1750, is situated. The John Selden is found at the foot of the South Downs, and has great transport links with good bus services, and only a 20 minute walk from West Worthing railway station, through the historic and picturesque Tarring village.

THE JOHN SELDEN

A proud supporter of CAMRA  |  The Campaign for Real Ale

We serve delicious home-cooked pub food ordered from the bar and brought to you. Speak to a member of staff if you’ve any special dietary requirements who will be happy to help, or will be able to ask the chef for more information.

OUR FOOD

We have our own car parking located just to the west of the pub and also a few spaces by the east entrance, all of which are free to patrons. Additionally, there is also street parking on neighbouring roads, but please respect our neighbours.

PARKING

Salvington is best known as the birthplace of the great jurist and antiquarian John Selden in 1584. The cottage in which he lived was demolished in the 1960’s. However Salvington's main public house, The John Selden, retains his name.

HISTORIC

We have numerous ways to get into the pub, our bars, and function room. So whatever your requirements we should be able to get you where you want to go. If you’ve questions about access prior to visiting us, please give a call before.

ACCESS

We have outside seating located in our garden. We would of course recommend it in better weather. But should you be of hardened stock, you are free to use it all year round. Extra beer is available from the bar to help to warm you through!

GARDEN

We have a function room that can be hired for almost any event you can think of… as long as it’s legal! Space for 60 people seated plus standing, dancing, or playing twister. Enquire about hire: Here

ROOM HIRE

We are a family friendly pub and all are always welcome, dog included! We are not however certified as a ‘child-friendly’ pub; but this is only because we have lots of ornaments and memorabilia on the walls.

FAMILIES

Always a favourite in the colder months of the year. Come in and warm yourself through next to our open fire located in the ‘Village’ bar, while you enjoy a nice hearty meal, and of course a drink or three!

OPEN FIRE

Whether parties, meals, or drinks, we love dogs who are always welcome. If he or she wants a drink, a free bowl can be ordered from the bar. Please keep your dog on a lead however, as we are a food serving pub

DOGS

Traditional doesn’t mean there’s no place for them new-fangled gadget things. We offer free Wi-fi for all of our customers. So a working lunch can actually be both, or you can check the time of the last bus home.
